Brutalities are a new mechanic introduced alongside the Lin Kuei Tower which the character can only perform on an opponent at 25% Health or less and also being the last character of the match. Jade/Assassin cannot evade Brutalities if she is at low enough health. Shao Kahn/Konqueror's special attack 2 has an instant kill, which can be performed mid-match and doesn't require the opponent being the last one in the fight. When D'Vorah/Wretch kills an opponent, the music of a Brutality being performed plays. Despite that, Shao Kahn and D'Vorah’s finishers don’t count as Brutalities in game.
Normally only diamond characters can do brutalities. However, with gold ascension upgrade from Update 4.0, gold characters also can perform brutalities once they reach Ascension Fusion level 5. Currently, only Scorpion/Hanzo Hasashi, Sonya Blade/Kombat Cup, Raiden/Dark, Tremor/Aftershock, Johnny Cage/Kombat Cup, Kitana/Mournful and Jason Voorhees/Slasher can be ascended.
