Strategy[]

When the match begins, all enemies will be affected by Ermac's Soul Siphon DOT, which will take away 10% of their max health and prevent recovery over the course of 30 seconds. Although underwhelming at first, it has since gained use since the introduction of event towers, where bosses take multiple attempts to take down due to their absurdly large health pool and immunity to DOTs, which Ermac's own DOT can bypass. His Soul Siphon DOT can persist even if he is not the first member in play or defeated. As such, he can be used even at low levels and can even be sacrificed as he inflicts damage upon death. Also, due to the nature of Ermac's self-destruction, he can render certain opponents' passives that trigger upon defeating an enemy (like Circle of Shadow Kitana) useless as his own passive nuke activates.

Please note that battles are highly situational: this section only mentions cards that have mechanics that, for any reason, are particularly effective with/against, or particularly ineffective against Ermac. Having a card that "counters" Ermac does not mean it is always a good choice.

Good Against[]

  • Enemies with high health and recovery, especially bosses and Rain/MK11.
  • Characters with passives revolve around tagging: His Snare on grapple SP2 disable tag.
  • Kitana/Circle of Shadow: Ermac explodes on defeat instead of being enslaved by Kitana, although Kitana can enslave him with a brutality.
  • Jade/MK11 and Liu Kang/Klassic: They aren't immune to his soul siphon.
  • Event Tower Boss battles: Tower Bosses have a modifier of immunity to DOTs, but Ermac's Soul Siphon is not affected, which he has the only DOT that can drain health of the bosses.

Error Macro Passive Opponents start the fight with Soul Siphon DOT, that takes 10% of their health and prevents recovery over 30 seconds (even if Ermac is tagged-out or defeated).
