Strategy[]
While Klassic Raiden counts as four out of five classes, Black Dragon Erron Black's unique class and passive ability counts him as any class, including Netherrealm, making him quite versatile and adaptable in any team.
His basic attacks have excellent knockback on a blocking enemy, giving him distance to chain his basic attacks into his special attacks, both of which are long ranged. It also allows him to keep pressure and momentum onto his enemy and also eliminates the need for block-breaking equipment, sparing a slot or two for more stronger ones.
His SP1, Swing Shot, is a cheap cripple, which can be made unblockable by reaching 90%+ on its mini-game. While it is already ranged, Erron Black can deal even more damage when it breaks block, thanks to the "Unbridled Savagery" talent. It is a double-edged sword however, as "Centaurian Defense" can also reflect the unblockable damage back at him. "Unbreakable Will" can also resist his cripple. It is possible for Erron to use his SP1 indefinitely when equipped with the Dynasty Mask of Madness, and the talent "Outworld Scourge" for the chance at free SP1 and certain equipment plus the talent "Meditation" for reduced SP1 cost, potentially crippling his opponent as long as he can.
Erron Black has a chance to perform a tag-out attack while doing so, and if an opponent tags in while he's already tagged out, to support his teammate with cover fire on the sidelines. Both these abilities can be upgraded up to 50%, making it more likely to trigger. Compared to characters with tag-out attacks like Liu Kang/Klassic and Jade/Assassin, his can KO the opponent.
His "wild card" passive can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, he can benefit from any class-based passive ability. On the other hand, this also makes him susceptible to characters and equipment with anti-class effects, such as Aftershock Tremor and Kosplay Jacqui Briggs.
The Devastator can be ideal on him due to his already strong SP1 and him counting as any class would most certainly trigger its fusion X effect, giving him an advantage with bonus health, damage and a bar of power.
After Update 2.7, his title has changed into "Black Dragon", adding him to the Black Dragon team and be able to benefit from their passives as well. In addition, while his Black Dragon teammates are currently tagged in, every 20 second interval, he will give them support fire as well, independent from ambushing the enemy that tags in. This can be shortened to 12 seconds by upgrading. Throughout his ways of assisting his teammates, all have a 35% chance to stun, rendering the enemy helpless for his teammates to deal with.

- Black Dragon Characters.
- Any character of any class. Erron Black's passive ability allows him to work with any team type and synchronize with other characters' passive abilities.
- Example 1: Erron Black teamed with Scorpion/Ninjutsu and Sub-Zero/Cryomancer grants him 30% damage and health boosts, despite not being a Martial Artist.
- Example 2: Erron Black teamed with Shao Kahn/Konqueror will result in Shao Kahn assisting Erron upon the latter's tag-in, despite not being an Outworld character. Erron Black's passive will also assist Shao Kahn upon the latter's tag-in, except Erron Black does not stun the opponent.
- Simply put, Erron Black will benefit from anyone's passive ability.
- Erron Black can still benefit from Kitana/Day of the Dead's passive (... and Outworld teammates receive REGEN that recovers ... of their health over ... seconds).
Good against[]
- Tanya/Treacherous: While Erron Black can’t Power Drain, he can cripple Tanya with his Special 1 and prevent her from breaking equipment for a limited time.
Countered by[]
- Jade/Assassin and Jason Voorhees/Nightmare: Both can evade his SP1 and therefore his cripple.
- Ronin Team, Johnny Cage/Strike Force, Cassie Cage/Undercover, Erron Black/Gunslinger: These characters and equipments deal more damage to certain class of opponents, that makes Erron Black's nomad class disadvantage to him.
- Sonya Blade/Kombat Cup: Sonya and her Kombat Cup teammates are immune to Stun.
- Tremor/Aftershock, Scorpion/Hellspawn, Jacqui Briggs/Cybernetic & Jacqui Briggs/Kosplay: These characters have advantage over certain class of opponents, that makes Erron Black's nomad class disadvantage to him.
- Kabal/Black Dragon: If Erron Black is equipped with the Varmint’s Ace in the Hole, he will be unable to evade the special attacks from Kabal and his Black Dragon Teammates while he is in Duel Mode.
- Cassie Cage/Kombat Cup: Cassie and her Kombat Cup teammates are immune to Cripple.
