Strategy[]
While his stats are not very impressive save for his toughness, he makes up for it by having unblockable special attacks and a reliable passive that would increase in effectiveness with every Netherrealm teammate. In a full Netherrealm team, he and his teammates would gain a +45% increase to their health. Unlike other class-specific health boosts, his can be applied to any type of teammates. Therefore, it is viable to pair him with a Netherrealm character and any of the Gold health boosters of the player's choice, such as Johnny Cage/A-List, Reptile/Nimble and Sub-Zero/Cryomancer, in which they would then have a +60% increase to their health, making them a really durable tank.
Interactions[]
Please note that battles are highly situational: this section only mentions cards that have mechanics that, for any reason, are particularly effective with/against, or particularly ineffective against Jax Briggs. Having a card that "counters" Jax Briggs does not mean it is always a good choice.
Good with[]
- Circle of Shadow Characters.
- Mileena/Vampiress: Mileena gives Netherrealm teammates extra damage against Bleeding opponents.
- Noob Saibot/MK11: Noob Saibot gives 50% more damage on crit and lethal attacks to Netherrealm class.
- Shinnok/Vengeful: Jax gains 20% critical hit chance boost from Shinnok.
- Maxed Soulsnake Arms equipment: With this equipment, Jax can also gain Invulnerability after he uses X-Ray attack.
- Power Generation equipments: Increasing power generation makes Jax use his special attacks easily and more chance to gain Invulnerability.
Good against[]
- Strike Force Characters.
- Kenshi/Ronin, Noob Saibot/MK11, Kintaro/Shokan Warrior & Jax Briggs/Klassic: Part of these characters' passive relies on blocking special attacks, which Jax's grapple special attacks can counter that.
- X-Ray and Fatal Blow attacks. If timed correctly, Jax can ignore damage from these attacks with his Invulnerability.
Countered by[]
- Cripple debuff: While Jax can still gain invulnerability from opponent's special attacks, crippling Jax makes him cannot get it from his own special attack use.
- Assassin Characters.
- Cassie Cage/Undercover: Cassie Cage deals 20% more damage against Netherrealm characters.
- Jacqui Briggs/Kosplay: Jacqui's Tremor and Ermac variation have advantages over Netherrealm characters.
- Johnny Cage/Strike Force: Johnny and his fellow Strike Force teammates deal 10-30% more damage against Netherrealm characters.
- Scorpion/Hellspawn: Scorpion takes less damage from Netherrealm characters.
- Tremor/Aftershock: Tremor and his fellow Martial Artists gain unblockable chance against Netherrealm characters.
- Divine Argus Cloak equipment: This equipment can apply debuffs whenever the opponent breaks block, which can counter Jax's grapple special attacks.
