Strategy[]
On paper, it would seem that his passive makes him a really tanky character. However, the low chance to activate it even when maxed out makes it a huge gamble to his survivability.
Interactions[]
Please note that battles are highly situational: this section only mentions cards that have mechanics that, for any reason, are particularly effective with/against, or particularly ineffective against Jax Briggs. Having a card that "counters" Jax Briggs does not mean it is always a good choice.
Good with[]
- Cassie Cage/Covert Ops: Jax is granted 25% unblockable chance on all attacks.
- Jacqui Briggs/High Tech: Jax receives +20% increased Power Generation, bumping up his base power generation percentage up to 150%.
- Jade/Klassic: Jax receives immunity to Snare from Jade.
- Johnny Cage/A-List & Sonya Blade/Demolition: Jax can gain +30% Damage from Sonya and Health from Johnny.
- Kenshi/Balanced & Rain/Klassic: Jax gains a bar of power at the start of a match.
- Noob Saibot/Klassic: Jax receives damage boost to unblockable attacks, which works great with his grapple special attacks.
- Smoke/Klassic: Because he is a Klassic character, Jax can gain resistance to debuffs from Smoke.
- Shadow Sash, Frost Mask or Body of Steel equipments: These equipments reduce opponent's chance of breaking block, which works great with Jax's passive.
Good against[]
- Any character in kombat.
- Characters that use special attacks on Jax may have their damage ignored. Jax may also apply weaken, power drain or cripple on opponents that use basic attacks. This makes Jax a good tank character, meaning he can take damage for the team while countering with disadvantageous modifiers to the opponent.
- Kenshi/Ronin, Noob Saibot/MK11, Kintaro/Shokan Warrior & Jax Briggs/Klassic (himself): Part of these characters' passive relies on blocking special attacks, which Jax's grapple special attacks can counter that.
Countered by[]
- Grapples, block breaking equipments and characters: Jax's passive relies on blocking attacks, which will be useless if the opponent breaks block.
- X-Ray and Fatal Blow attacks. Jax's passive does not ignore X-Rays, so it is advised that players team Jax with a power drain character in order to reduce the risk of the opponent eliminating Jax from the player team.
- Erron Black/Gunslinger, Takeda/Ronin, & Executioner Axe: The characters and equipments deal more damage against Spec Ops characters including Jax Briggs.
- Liu Kang/Klassic, Raiden/Dark & Raiden/MK11: Because Jax's basic attack blocking has a chance to apply Power Drain, Liu Kang could gain extra basic attack damage, Dark Raiden can reverse power drain effects, and MK11 Raiden as well as his MK11 teammates will be immune to Power Drain.
- Noob Saibot/Klassic: Noob Saibot can disable blocking on his special attack 1, which makes Jax can't rely on his passive for a while.
- Divine Argus Cloak equipment: This equipment can apply debuffs whenever the opponent breaks block, which can counter Jax's grapple special attacks.
