Strategy[]
Despite with slow and clunky basic attacks, Hat Trick Kung Lao is a great support for Martial Artist characters who rely on critical attacks. Triborg/Cyrax (LK-4D4) can be considered an upgrade of Kung Lao as his critical boost affect everyone regardless of class and he also has much higher stats and extra synergy with Triborg characters.

Please note that battles are highly situational: this section only mentions cards that have mechanics that, for any reason, are particularly effective with/against, or particularly ineffective against Kung Lao. Having a card that "counters" Kung Lao does not mean it is always a good choice.
Good With[]
- Martial Artist characters, especially ones with high critical hit chance such as Kenshi/Elder God, Triborg/Sub-Zero (LK-520), Bo' Rai Cho/Dragon Breath and Liu Kang/Flaming Fists.
Good Against[]
- Characters with low health: His critical boost can deal a lot of damage, wiping them quickly.

- Characters with critical hit immunity, such as Kenshi/Elder God, Kitana/Assassin & Scorpion/Hellspawn.
