Strategy[]
Liu Kang's ability to exponentially grow in power over the course of the match makes him a formidable character. While his basic attack chains aren't as fast as those of Liu Kang/Klassic, he is still able to exert a significant amount of pressure on his opponents, easily pushing them back to the corner. Pair him with block breaker equipment and Tanya/Pyromancer to quickly stack Dragon Fires. At 7 Dragon Fires, Liu Kang becomes a great giant killer, and can easily take down opponents with over 8x his health.
Interactions[]
Please note that battles are highly situational: this section only mentions cards that have mechanics that, for any reason, are particularly effective with/against, or particularly ineffective against Liu Kang. Having a card that "counters" Liu Kang does not mean it is always a good choice.
Good With[]
- Elder God Characters.
- Tanya/Pyromancer: Tanya's passive gives Liu Kang the ability to deal Fire on combo enders, allowing him to stack Dragon Fire extremely easily. Her Devil's Dust effect makes the opponent take extra damage from Liu Kang's Fire attacks.
- Triborg/Sektor: Liu Kang receives Fire damage boost from Triborg.
- Scorpion/Hellspawn & Kung Jin/Shaolin: Liu Kang can start match with extra power with these characters, makes it easier to do special attacks and apply Fire to opponents.
- Blaze's Life Force & Scorpion's Brutality set: These equipments make Liu Kang's Fire deal more damage and inflict Fire DOT easily. Blaze's Life Force starts match with opponent on Fire, giving Liu Kang a Dragon Fire. Blaze's Life Force and Specter's Infernal Chains equipments increase Fire damage Liu Kang deals. Specter's Burning Vengeance equipment can apply Fire on every special moves and has chance to apply Fire if hit.
- His own Brutality set: Champion's Nunchaku equipment from his Brutality set makes Liu Kang apply Fire on basic attacks, stacking his Dragon Fire very fast. Maxed Champion's Leather Bracers equipments increases damage when Liu Kang is on Fire.
- Hellfire Blade equipment: This equipment applies Fire to both wearer and opponent on tag-in, gives Liu Kang 2 Dragon Fire easily.
Good Against[]
- Characters who can deal Fire DOT, especially against Scorpion/MK11, Scorpion/Hanzo Hasashi, Triborgs with Sektor on the team and Goro/Tigrar Fury: Liu Kang gains health and Dragon Fire if he is affected by Fire DOT.
- Jade/Assassin, Jason Voorhees/Nightmare & Varan Jacket equipment: With enough Dragon Fire stacked, Liu Kang can deal massive damage on his basic attacks without relying on special attack.
- Smoke/Klassic: Smoke and his Klassic teammates have chance to reflect debuffs. But against Liu Kang, either reflecting or being affected by his Fire benefits Liu Kang, making Smoke on disadvantage in both situations.
- Inferno and High Voltage modifiers.
Countered By[]
- Characters who can resist or benefits from Fire DOT such as Raiden/Dark, Jade/MK11, Liu Kang/Klassic, Liu Kang/Fire God (himself), Scorpion/Kold War & Kintaro/Shokan Warrior.
- Kenshi/Ronin & Combat Shotgun: Both the character and equipment piece deal more damage against Martial Artists, including Liu Kang.
- Witch's Ward, Survivor Memories & Traitor's Wreath equipments: All these equipments can resist Fire DOT
- Secret Scrolls equipment: This equipment's FX effect makes the wearer heal from Fire DOT.
