Strategy[]
While Dark Raiden's stats aren't the best, he makes up for it with an unblockable, grapple SP2 and a passive that can benefit from two common negative effects in the game. Not only can he reverse effects of enemy Power Drain even including Frostbite, but he can also heal when he is Bleeding, Poisoned, or on Fire.
Dark Raiden is currently the only character in this game who reverses the effects on Dark Magic, which is really useful when doing Challenges or Shao Kahn's Tower.
Interactions[]
Please note that battles are highly situational: this section only mentions cards that have mechanics that, for any reason, are particularly effective with/against, or particularly ineffective against Raiden. Having a card that "counters" Raiden does not mean it is always a good choice.
Good With[]
- Kenshi/Elder God: Because Raiden is an Elder God character, he will benefit with Kenshi's critical chance and immunities.
- Shinnok/Vengeful: Because Raiden is also a Netherrealm teammate, he will gain 20% critical chance thanks to Shinnok.
- Rain/MK11 : Raiden's lightning attacks can damage tagged-out Soaked opponents with Rain, as well as getting 400% Recovery increase.
- Wrath Hammer & Bloody Tomahawk: Because Kung Lao has been nerfed to give Circle of Shadow characters bars of Power instead of normal Netherrealm characters, these equipments are now the only guaranteed way for Raiden to start with 1 Bar of Power.
Good Against[]
- Power Drainers: Raiden reverses the effects of Power Drain, especially from Frostbite.
- DOTs: Raiden heals from Bleed Poison & Fire as stated in his Passive.
- Ermac/Klassic: Raiden heals from Ermac's Soul Siphon DOT.
- Dark Magic: As stated above in Strategy.
- Oni: Raiden gains 1 Bar of Power when he knocks out Oni.
Countered by[]
- Johnny Cage/Strike Force & Cassie Cage/Undercover: Both of these characters can deal more damage against Netherrealm Characters including Dark Raiden. Plus, while Johnny Cage's Tags (with Strike Force Scorpion) and Special 1 give Raiden Power, Johnny Cage can also be saved from death twice if Scorpion again is on the same team with Strike Force Cassie Cage.
- Jacqui Briggs/Cybernetic & Scorpion/Hellspawn: Both of them take less damage from Netherrealm characters including Raiden.
- Tremor/Aftershock: Tremor and his fellow Martial Artists gain unblockable chance against Netherrealm characters.
- Jacqui Briggs/Kosplay (Ermac & Tremor): Ermac Jacqui gains Vampirism and Damage reflection against Netherrealm, and Tremor Jacqui gains Lethal Blow Chance against Netherrealm Characters.
