Strategy[]
Scorpion's ability to make his Spear special attack unblockable makes his Shirai Ryu Kunai almost unnecessary on him. Because of this, it frees up the weapon slot of his equipment tab which can instead either hold the Wrath Hammer or Bloody Tomahawk, both which can give Scorpion a starting bar of power to be able to use his SP1 earlier in a fight. His Spear special attack can force tag an enemy if that enemy is the most hurt and is tagged out. As such, his passive is used to finish off enemies, preventing them from recovering health and power in which they can hit back hard with a stronger special attack. His force tag from his Spear special attack can ignore tag-in effects, even if it does not hurt the player such as Liu Kang/Flaming Fists's passive which buffs him but does not actually attack the opponent. As such, it can be used against characters with tag-in attacks such as Kung Lao/Hat Trick, Jade/Assassin and Raiden/Thunder God.
Recommended Talents[]
On the player's side, his passive can be boosted with the following talents:
- Rapid Response
- Outworld Scourge
- Exposing Weakness
- Cruel Affliction
- Horse Stance
- Teamwork
- Spec Ops Tactics
- Stranglehold
- Centered
- Lightning Blow
- Meditation
Interactions[]
Please note that battles are highly situational: this section only mentions cards that have mechanics that, for any reason, are particularly effective with/against, or particularly ineffective against Scorpion. Having a card that "counters" Scorpion does not mean it is always a good choice.
Good with[]
- Kung Jin/Shaolin & Scorpion/Hellspawn: They give Scorpion at least 1 bar of power, allowing him to utilize his passive earlier.
- Smoke/Klassic: Smoke gives Klassic teammates resistance to debuffs.
Good against[]
- Bosses with unblockable immunity: Despite their ability to resist unblockable attacks, Scorpion can seemingly bypass it.
- Any characters with tag effects; including the likes of Raiden/Klassic and Mileena/Ravenous.
- Jason Voorhees/Nightmare and Jade/Assassin: They can't evade if his SP1 pulls them when they are inactive.
Countered by[]
- Silence debuff: Silence disables SP1 and reduces power generation.
- Characters who can resist or benefit from Fire DOT such as Raiden/Dark, Jade/MK11, Liu Kang/Klassic, Liu Kang/Fire God, Scorpion/Kold War & Kintaro/Shokan Warrior.
- D'Vorah/Prime & Kitana/Day of the Dead: Both characters are immune Scorpion’s Bleed on his unblockable Special 1.
- Jade/MK11 & Raiden/Dark: They can reverse the effects of Scorpion's bleed, healing them as they come into battle. Plus, Jade can spread DOT healing to MK11 teammates.
- Jason Voorhees/Nightmare: If Jason evades, Scorpion's passive will be totally negated even if he reaches 80%+ on it.
- Mileena/Piercing: His bleed can give her one bar of power, allowing Mileena to strike back with a special or even an X-Ray attack.
