Strategy[]
Scorpion is the cornerstone of the Strike Force team, being able to save his teammates. He is the main reason why the Strike Force is so gimmicky and fun to use. He is also one of the best diamond characters in the whole game.
General Strategy:
The Strike Force team is known for its tag-in antics, which can be extremely deadly (and frustrating to play against). Assuming you are using a full Strike Force team, you want to start fights by constantly switching between Johnny Cage and Cassie Cage, to completely annihilate the opponent's power bars from their tag-in power drain.
New players might be tempted to use Scorpion as an early attacker because of his high base attack stat, however this is definitely not recommended. Since he cannot save his teammates when he is defeated, you absolutely want to keep him alive as for long as possible, meaning under normal circumstances, you should never tag him in until either Johnny or Cassie has been knocked out. This also means that when Scorpion performs a Tactical Extraction, you want to tag him out ASAP to prevent him from being knocked out. During the short time that Scorpion will be active, your next move generally depends on his HP levels. If his remaining health is:
-HIGH: you can attempt a Spear (SP1) to stun the opponent and immediately tag out. Johnny/Cassie can then land an unblocked special attack.
-LOW: you want to use Judgement (SP2) and immediately tag out. He can safely regenerate his HP while tagged out, and he will be harder to kill the next he comes in. Fortunately, Scorpion's basic attacks chain together extremely well and will rarely be interrupted, so you can safely build up power to use his SP2.
Prioritize equipment that increases his chances of survival:
-Equipment that grants additional HP, like Saurian Armor.
-Equipment that can potentially save him from a death hit, like Living Dead.
-Equipment that boosts power generation. With increased power generation, he will be able to use his SP2 faster, which can save him if he is low on HP.
-Equipment that resists stun, power drain and poison things you absolutely want to avoid when he is low on HP. When stunned, he is in great danger of being killed by an enemy special attack. When he gets power drained while low on HP, he will have to use more basic attacks and stay active longer before he can use his SP2. When suffering from poison, he cannot regen with his SP2, which great increases his chances of dying.
-Block breakers. Despite being a piece of equipment that is often used offensively, Scorpion can also utilize it to increase his chances of survival. Block breaking will allow Scorpion to perform one of his combo enders (he summons a sword in his hand, takes a moment before slicing the opponent while pushing him back). This combo ender is amazing not because of the cool animation or the damage it does, but because of the time it takes to do it: it can shave off ~3 seconds off of his tag out cooldown, lowering the chances of the enemy using a special attack that can kill him.
-For veteran players with FX rare equipment, the best rare pieces of equipment for him are definitely either Soul Medallion OR Rusty Chainsaw + Bound Demon. The reason these equipments work so well on Scorpion is because of the -50% power spent on his SP2, extra power generation and chance to heal from 50% SP2 damage dealt. That makes it super easy for Scorpion to spam his SP2 constantly to deal more damage and stacking healing on top of regen. If healing is triggered on a full powered SP2, Scorpion can go from 1% health back to 100% in less than 10 seconds after regen starts. (Which is guaranteed if you tag him out right after SP2). In the armor slot, you should go for either FX Saurian Armor or FX Elemental Mask. Against stronger opponents, Saurian Armor's hp and recovery boost is always nice, but against gimmicky opponents that use power drain or other tag-in antics, Elemental Mask's power generation boost and debuff resistance can be more useful.
-Ever since the Shirai Ryu tower, Scorpion now has access to his own Brutality equipment, which is absolutely amazing on most diamond Scorpions, like Scorpion/MK11 or Scorpion/Hellspawn. However, Strike Force Scorpion is the most defense-oriented variant among them, so his brutality equipment should almost never not be prioritized over survival equipment on Strike Force Scorpion, unless your Strike Force team is your strongest diamond team and you want Scorpion to finish off a lingering Tower boss that is within brutality HP kill range.
Talent Tree recommendations:
Strike Force Scorpion is such a good kard that some players even consider resetting their talent tree points and rebuild it according to accomodate him better. Good talents for him include:
-Revenant, maxed out. (Defense Tree) Potentially avoid a death hit with 5 seconds of invulnerability, during which you can build up power to use SP2 and tag out, as if nothing ever happened.
-Bone Shield, maxed out. (Defense Tree) Same reason as Revenant.
-Warlock's Spells, maxed out. (Support Tree) It goes without saying that Scorpion will definitely benefit from a regen boost for when he uses his SP2.
-Weak point attacks, one point. (Support Tree) All Strike Force teammates can use this to their advantage: thanks to Scorpion's passive, they are capable of draining power on tag-in. Snared opponents can be easier to kill off.
-Hawk Stance, preferably maxed out. (Support Tree) As previously mentioned, debuffs are one of his biggest weaknesses. Resisting a poison debuff might just mean keeping your Scorpion alive.
Side notes:
-Being a Strike Force team member, he can power drain on tag in and gain some extra power for himself. Often times you will have an X-Ray available and ready to use. While it can be extremely tempting to use, DO NOT USE IT unless it is absolutely necessary (ex.: to fight an Assassin Jade or to clear Shao Kahn Tower 87). Instead, you are better off using SP2 and/or SP1 since they can stun/grant regen.
-One of his two chains of basic attack chains ends with a spin kick that pushes the enemy way back (intentionally so that he can perform his sword slice combo ender while dashing towards the enemy).
-If you do not have a full Strike Force team, some good teammates for him include: High Tech Jacqui Briggs (+20% power gen), Silver Kenshi (Scorpion grants him a double buff because he is also a dual class) and other Scorpions (most of them have a spear than stuns as their SP1: using SP1 and tagging out into another with another Scorpion allows for a multitude of options). He also works well with the Terminators, to make a really good defensive team. Also, Scorpion counts as Spec Ops, so he can benefit from their passives.
-If you are using Strike Force Scorpion with Strike Force Cassie Cage, you should never give Scorpion the Shirai Ryu Kunai. Instead, you should give it to Cassie, since the Shirai Ryu Kunai grants its user a 50% damage boost against stunned or slowed opponents at FX. Thanks to Cassie's Nut Kracker, she will virtually get a permanent 50% damage boost at all times from this equipment. If placed on Scorpion, this equipment is nowhere near as effective: the critical chance boost is not great on a defensive character, the unblockable special attacks chance is not as good as unblockable basic attacks and Scorpion can only benefit from the damage boost after Stun and Slow when he uses SP1, which does not last very long anyway.
Interactions[]
Please note that battles are highly situational: this section only mentions cards that have mechanics that, for any reason, are particularly effective with/against, or particularly ineffective against Scorpion. Having a card that "counters" Scorpion does not mean it is always a good choice.
Good With[]
- Any character but especially:
- Strike Force Characters: While Scorpion could save a normal character once, he can save his fellow Strike Force teammates twice. To clarify: he can only perform "one additional save", meaning that he will not be able to save both of them twice.
- Kenshi/Balanced, Kung Jin/Shaolin, Scorpion/Hellspawn, Wrath Hammer & Bloody Tomahawk: Scorpion can start match with extra power from these supports.
- Terminator/Dark Fate: Terminator can tank massive damage and makes Spec Ops teammates receive reduced damage.
- Terminator/Guardian: Terminator can save Scorpion from special attacks, preventing him from dying easily. Especially useful if Scorpion is Snared.
Good Against[]
Countered By[]
- Circle of Shadow Characters.
- Kabal/MK11: Kabal can reflect Stun on his MK11 teammates.
- Kitana/Day of the Dead: Scorpion's saving triggers Kitana's Regen. Kitana can also inflict Poison on her special attack 2 to prevent Scorpion's Regen.
- Liu Kang/Klassic, Raiden/MK11 & Raiden/Dark: All of these characters are immune to the Power Drain during Scorpion’s Tags, with MK11 Raiden spreading this immunity to MK11 teammates.
- Noob Saibot characters and Deathmark debuff: Scorpion can't save a teammte who is inflicted by Deathmark.
- Reptile, D'Vorah and other characters who can inflict Poison: Scorpion cannot regenerate with his SP2 while he is poisoned.
- Shao Kahn/Konqueror: His instant kill on SP2 ignore the rescue.
- Shinnok/Bone Shaper: Scorpion's saving triggers Shinnok's passive Strengthen and it can stack.
- Sonya Blade/Kombat Cup: Sonya and her Kombat Cup teammates are immune to Stun.

Trivia[]
- The saving from death blow part of Strike Force Scorpion's Passive is very similar to Arkham Knight Batgirl's Passive in Injustice Mobile, except Scorpion does this on any team, while Batgirl does this only on an Arkham team.
- Prior to Update 2.0, his passive was Tactical Extraction: Scorpion saves each teammate from one Death Blow, then counterattacks the opponent. Spec Ops teammates steal POWER on tag-in.
- Prior to Update 2.4, he was known as Scorpion/Spec Ops.
