Tower of Horror is a game mode introduced in Update 2.3. It is a Halloween time-limited Event Tower consisting of 200 battles which awards Koins, Souls, equipment, exclusive tower equipment, Gold and Diamond characters, due to the difficulty of the tower being harder than any of the other game modes. The battles get progressively harder, starting with low-level F0 Golds to a full FX LVL 60 Diamond team on battle 200.
2019 ToH had a diamond Kabal/Black Dragon card as reward
2020 ToH has one of diamond Circle of Shadow character as reward
Event duration:
1) 10/17/2019 - 12/07/2019
2) 10/19/2020 - 11/09/2020
Mechanics[]
Every day, starting at midnight GMT, the tower refreshes 3 times per day every 8 hours, so that the player can try 3 battles each, giving a total of 9 matches per day (without refreshing) or 27 battles/day if using all refreshes (2 refreshes allowed, 50 Souls each). This means 27 battles/day can be achieved by spending 300 Souls (2020 ToH has 30 battles/day and resets 2 times/day instead of 3).
Every battle gives a random reward which includes Koins, Souls, equipment and Gold Characters too, even if the player loses. Every 20 battles, a Gold Card is guaranteed as reward (if the player wins).
Also, this tower is one of the few game modes which has exclusive equipment. In other words, along this mode were introduced equipment pieces which can be obtained only by playing the Tower of Horror, and their effects are almost useless outside it. The Epic equipment from this Tower has such big boosts to help players without maxed-out characters to beat it. These equipment pieces are the following:
- Uncommon: Bone Claw, Demon Eye and Death Rattle.
- Rare: Bloodsucker, Meat's Cleaver and Witch's Ward.
- Epic: Hellfire Blade, Living Dead, Reaper's End and Wailing Spirit.
Strategy[]
It is advised to use your best team to attempt this tower. One can beat ToH without a full FX60 team, since the drop rates of exclusive equipment is decent and the battles reward you even if you lose, so by only playing, one can fuse the needed Gold Characters and get equipment to go further.
One character that can be very useful on later levels is Sonya Blade/Kombat Cup since she can disable one fighter from the enemy team (the stronger for example), so the player can focus on killing the other ones before giving full attention to the toughest character.
It is safe to say that refreshing is a must for a couple of reasons: the drop rates of expensive equipment and characters is high, and there are even guaranteed Golds, so spending 300 Souls/day in the tower to obtain rare stuff, rather than throwing them in Diamond Packs, is a very good investment, not to mention that completing this mode gives a free Diamond, and refreshing the tower regularly gives more fuses within that time period, and you get more chances to obtain the Epic equipment from the tower.
Also, if following the accepted strategy for Quest Mode, by questing all day long, one can gain enough Souls for all ToH refreshes, and even a good amount of Souls will be saved. In other words, investing in the Tower of Horror is way more profitable than investing in Diamond or Gold Packs.
To refresh or not to refresh? That is the question.[]
Here is a quick breakdown of how good the drops of the Tower of Horror are, compared to normal acquisitions. Since this tower drops characters and equipment of all tiers, let's make a comparison of how much it will take to get the same results by buying packs, instead of playing:
- Total cost of all refreshes for 1 tower completion (7 days and 8 Hours) = 300 Souls/day * 7 days + 100 Souls for the extra 8 hours = 2200 Souls.
And now, let's see how much the packs cost:
- 4 Gold Characters * 150 Souls each (minimum value of Gold Pack) = 600 Souls.
- 4 Challenge Characters * 300 Souls each (value of Challenge Pack) = 1200 Souls.
- 1 Diamond Kabal * 400 Souls (value of Diamond Pack, assuming you got him in the first pack) = 400 Souls.
- Collection of ~300 Souls as Rewards during the various levels.
- Total rewards value = 2500 Souls (assuming Diamond Card was obtained in the first pack, otherwise the amount of Souls to be spend on the Diamond will be a lot greater).
- Bonus: Various ToH equipment, Uncommon Equipment and even Rare/Epic drops occasionally. Lots of Koin rewards and Upgrade cards.
After this comparison, we can see that the min. amount of Souls we need to obtain the same results as the tower is greater than refreshing this game mode, without even taking in account the bonus equipment and minor rewards. So, after this analysis, we can safely say that refreshing Tower of Horror is a must.
